Thanks for writing, Julie. My comments about Steven at the Q&A were not meant in any way to disrespect or denigrate James’ own surround mixing prowess or achievements. I was merely pointing out that, to my ears upon first listen, James’s 5.1 mix of Amused to Death was immediately on par with some of the best surround mixes I’ve heard to date, and that includes mixes done by Steven. Afterward, James told me how much he appreciated me saying that.

Rest assured, I plan on covering James’ amazing surround-sound work in much greater depth in the coming months.

I would have preferred if you’d not mentioned Steven Wilson in your comment at the Q&A – James is a true pioneer of the immersive audio experience, long before Wilson even began his professional career, and it would be nice if people could stop comparing James to SW every time a discussion of 5.1 arises – James deserves far more respect for his achievements in the field than he actually receives.
