Mute those two added channels with your receiver and you have the original Quad in all it’s glory!

A few Simon and Garfunkel ‘opened up’ quite a bit with the arrangement too. Mostly, it was just fun to try things – I don’t remember most of the details (if you remember the 60s and early 70s, you weren’t there … and the grades were more dependent on getting the design projects done than playing with the sound).

And we found that there WAS surround sound in those records – hook up a difference channel in back (efficient speaker across the hots with a pad to balance level with the front). Yes, occasionally you’d fry an amp (providing an opportunity for an Electrical Engineering student project), but it worked and some of those sounds did go around the room.

(Whenever they played Madison Square Garden, Moody Blues fans would come out of the woodwork in droves.) The band pretty much provided the soundtrack to a decade of my life. Watching and waiting … for a friend to play with … Why have I been alone so long?” Yikes! They should have called themselves the Maudlin Blues. How did I ever wallow in such self pity? I better blast “Ride My See-Saw” before I slip into moroseness.
